A Difficult Task

Although I currently don't have any Etsy commissions to work on, I have received a commission from an aquaintance for a logo design. Initially I was pretty excited about a chance to design a logo - one of my favorite blogs is Brand New. But then I got more details on the commission...and...well, he wants a "fun and whimsical" drawing of a firefighter using a harness to load a hose onto a truck. Don't ask why.

I sat down to try and come up with a "fun and whimsical" logo that conforms to the general logo design goals of simplicity and scalability, and yet also depicts a firefighter, a harness, a hose, and at least suggests a firetruck as well.

As you can see, originally I tried drawing a full firetruck, but the focus really needs to be on the harness. So I zoomed in to the fireman, then decided just to include his top half. I took the bottom right sketch, cleaned it up a bit, then sent it to the guy to get his feedback, since I really don't know exactly how "whimsical and fun" he wants this to be. It sure is cute, though, isn't it?

It's possible he may want to go in an entirely different direction. In the meantime, I'll keep coming up with more ideas.
