Red Coral

I purchased this necklace from skeptis' Etsy shop. Her store is full of jewelry made from unique and unusual pieces. This necklace is made with 1920's coral pieces. On her blog skeptis wrote a post on the fact that prized red coral, such as the kind used in this necklace, is actually an endangered species. It is beautiful and colorful, but it also grows very slowly, and thus is particularly prone to being over-harvested. So, skeptis only uses vintage coral in her jewelry pieces, which I think is pretty cool. That's one reason why I chose this coral necklace over the many other ones available on Etsy.

It's still making its way over to me in the mail right now. I'm looking forward to seeing it!
