The Yarn Tree, by Kelley

This summer I am taking a Children's Book Illustration class. It is really fun and I look forward to every class. Last week our assignment was to sketch a five-page, wordless story. I chose to depict a little girl who plants a ball of yarn. Enjoy!

  1. omg, kelley---

I just started painting a painting for my house and it is very similar to the trees in these drawings. I mean, there are basic shapes of trees taking up the canvas, and I've made really similar marks on the tree trunks and am painting each stripe a different color.... I swear I JUST now saw yours!! I saw this and had to do a double-take...

  4. This is lovely! It's a very charming and creative narrative, I think, in and of itself... and of course the drawings bring it to life perfectly. I just went back and looked at it a second time and realized that the girl is growing up with her yarn tree - Kelley, this is beautiful!

  6. Wonderful. Love the story. As a metaphor, the lady could be my mom and the little girl could be me. Touching! :) Petra
