Anniversary Portrait, part 1

Today I began on a commission, an anniversary portrait. The first step is to draw in the basic shapes, to guide the rest of the drawing. Drawings usually look kind of strange at this point, without the shading. Sometimes the eyes look trippy. But things will come together soon.

I'd say this took about 45 minutes. I'm so bad about tracking my time!
