Huzzah, the UK portrait is finished, and tomorrow it will make its bonny way across the sea. I hope it arrives safely.
Here's the original reference photo. As you can see, it's a Frankenstein of several photographs, but luckily they work together very smoothly. However, the hand on the left side is cut off, and I didn't want to leave it that way for the drawing. I tried a couple times to draw a hand from my imagination, but they all looked really strange. They were either the wrong size or were at an angle that didn't match the arm. So I grabbed my camera, went into the bathroom and pretended that I had an arm around the shoulder of a good buddy:
It worked! And I'm happy with the way the drawing came out, especially the way the faces seem to be lit up by sunlight and the expressions look natural.
See part 1 and part 2 of this drawing.
You should've made the hand look like a claw with blood dripping from the talons. That way, the observant critic would have to conclude that this isn't just another masterpiece- it's a monsterpiece.
ReplyDeleteDaddy made that comment....As if you couldn't tell.
