Spartan drawing - and an announcement

I love how this came out, if I do say so myself. Usually I find drawing clothing to be very boring, but all of the little folds made it fun.

I found this stock photo on Tw1stedTruth-stock's Deviantart page. The model, the costume, the lighting and pose are all superb - especially since I was  looking for something where the feet and legs were showing.

In other news, I've decided to apply to the graduate illustration program at the Academy of Art University. They have a lot of cool-sounding courses there, with some classes focusing on illustrating children's books, which I am interested in.

Image found here.

To enroll in the Fall semester, have to submit a portfolio of 15-20 drawings by the beginning of March. Of course, I have plenty of portraits I could submit, but the illustration department director also wants to see hand and figure drawings. So I've been working on some things, like the Spartan drawing above, to submit.

Unfortunately the only medium in which I am proficient is pencil, so my portfolio is going to be pretty colorless. Maybe I'll give colored pencils a shot; see if I can make anything decent.

Anyway, if the department director decides that I'm not ready for the master's program, I could always enter the bachelor's program. But that wouldn't be as cool. So if I don't get in, I'll probably try again next semester.

Feeling optimistic, though. :)

  4. I'm sure your parents would be thrilled with the news, if only there was some way to tell them. Intergalactic courier pigeon is SO slow, even when equipped with ion drive, which is pretty pricey. By the time your parents get the message, it will have been said for centuries: "Drawworm. Every cadet is thoroughly familiar with her. Her works are required study at the Academy."
